I would suggest that they do care about the environment, but only in two ways. First if there's a fast buck to be made in exploiting the environment by their supporters. Second is if there's votes in it which puts the Tories in a bit of a dilemma since these two groups are generally mutually exclusive. I suspect that the Tories will pander to the former while trying to bamboozle the latter. So expect to see grand announcements on the environment with little or no substance.
