DIRTBIKE RIDING Dirt bike riding is a fun time passing activity to spend with your family and friends. Even though dirt bike riding is an extreme sport, that doesn’t mean you have to treat it as such, the most important thing is you’re out doing something active, and having fun doing it. The most important thing when it comes to dirt biking is safety. And when it comes to safety, there are a few things you need to know. First off, you should know your way around the bike. Such as: the clutch; this is basically used for every action you do. Starting the bike, turning off the bike, breaking ect. To break, you pull in the clutch, and step on the break. (Which is near your right foot, kind of like a pedal.) The emergency break is on the right handle bar; you only use this, well, in emergencies. What this does is it stops your front tire. Now that you know your way around the bike, you have to be familiar with proper riding gear. What your wearing is also very important when it comes to riding. Your fingers can get very sore, so its very important to wear gloves. Your gloves don’t have to be anything to fancy, whatever works for you. The gloves are really to keep your fingers warm, but just remember that your fingers should somewhat be protected just incase. Footwear: You should be wearing Steel toed boots: this is very important. You must have steel-toed boots, or some other really protective kind of boot. If a bike falls on you, your feat can easily get hurt. And if you fall, (which is almost unpreventable) you should be prepared for a heavy bike to possibly land on you, and you also need to be well prepared to take that heavy fall, which means you should also probably be wearing layers of clothing. This isn’t just to keep you warm, but also the impact of your fall wont be as hard. Finally your helmet. Damage to your head can always possibly lead to something fatal. Safety comes at a price, if you don’t have a good enough helmet, or you have yet to even buy a helmet, remember, do not go unprepared. Make sure your head is protected. The helmet is the most important thing to wear, and it should be treated as such. And now that were familiar with the bike and proper safety, were ready to ride, and have tons of fun! Riding can be fun in so many ways, and everyone has fun in there own ways. I like to categorize most of these people in about two categories. The first way I categorize people is into: Outdoor riders, this is more for riders who just want to get out there, and explore the world with their bike. And the second way I categorize people in into: extreme riders, these people ride for different reasons, but they choose the path on insane riding as a sport. These guys love what they do, and take dirt biking more serious than most. I also like to say; Just because your an outdoor rider, doesn’t mean you can't cross over into the extreme path. When it comes to riding, there’s almost no limits that can't thrill you, and nothing can hold you back from where you can go, because you can go ANYWHERE! As long as your careful, you can go and do anything you want. Now lets move onto our next topic "When you crash!" Speed. I almost forgot to mention this. As we learned that you have to pull in your clutch to do practically anything, you must also do this to increase or decrease your speed, or gearing up/gearing down. Some bikes can take on extreme speeds, so be careful. There will be a handle, near your foot on your bike, when you turn your bike on, it should be in neutral. To put it in first gear, you pull your clutch in, and kick it down. To put it in 2nd, 3rd, 4th ect. You just kick it up that many times. To gear down, you do the same thing in, but in reverse order. Now speed has lots to do with crashing. SO never lose control at high speeds. Now if you’re going to fall, and there’s absolutely nothing you can do to stop it, here’s what you should do: Try to avoid letting the bike fall on you. This can happen if you turn to quick, or if you go up a hill in a wrong gear, and the front wheel comes up resulting in the bike falling on you. If its unpreventable and the bike falls on you, its something you have to be prepared to take (remember you should be wearing layers) and you should be wearing the right safety gear. If you just fall off your bike, its important to quickly pick it up, because while that bike is lying there, the gas tank could be leaking, and you don’t want all your gas to leak out. (Also, if you run out of gas, most bikes have an emergency tank that can go for a short period of time, so always have your gas checked). Now if you can't pick up your bike, that means its too big. (If your new to buying a bike, you should know your size, be sure you can pick your bike up) You have to be really prepared for this. If for some reason you crash while doing a major jump or something, refrain from taking any damage around you neck or head area, again, this could be fatal. If it is a serious crash, I hope your able to accept the fact your bike is probably finished. So as you see, dirt bike riding isn’t just for the pros, you don’t have to be a professional to ride, you just have to have the desire for extreme riding fun.
