Actually, the government (and parties) being opposed to PR was part of my point. It is why they choose to pit FPTP against a particular type of PR as opposed to the whole concept of PR in general. Those opposed to PR use the divisions within the PR community to ensure a defeat by putting one particular type of PR against FPTP. All I am suggesting is that a better question would be to ask if people want FPTP or _some_form_ of PR, to be deterimed after the referendum would have a better chance at success than they way the people in favour of the status quo are currently forming the ballot questions. In that way the anti-PR forces can't use the natural divisions within the PR community to ensure a defeat.
