Harper and the UN

Jason ramblingWell Canada is up for it's decennial turn on the Security Council. What's different this time is that unlike the past times, Canada isn't a shoe-in. The reason for this is obvious, Canada's adoption of a US Republican style foreign policy. What this means is that if we win the seat, it will be despite Stephen Harper and his merry band of Tories and if we lose it the blame will fall squarely at their feet.

This hasn't stopped the Tories from looking for ways to blame the Liberals. This seems to be the Conservative default position when they've screwed up. The hypocrisy of this is astounding as the law-and-order Tories are all about preaching personal responsibility for actions, except of course if the person having to be held accountable is a Conservative.

It remains to be seen if the Harper Tory's new Ignatief-as-bad-guy narrative in this case will work. At this point the credibility of the Harper Tories outside of their base is dropping after a string of blunders and the resultant attempt to spin their way out of the blunders. Canadians are starting to see that Stephen Harper is all hat and the fact that he and his party can only attack the Liberals and their leader, and not speak to their accomplishments shows this. Sad really.
