The Radio Sky
Why do I bring this up? Well, one of my many hobbies is astronomy (one of my other hobbies, model railroading has it's own page here). Specifically radio astronomy. As part of what I do in this hobby I use a radio telescope to scan the heavens. A preliminary result of some of this work is the picture below. It represents the various sky brightnesses at a frequency of 800 MHz. From least bright to most bright the colours are black, blue, turquoise, pink, purple, red, orange then yellow. The light blue outline that forms a “U” on the map is the visible Milky Way. It is clear that there's more to the sky than meets the eye.
